The problem

Your team makes decisions on numbers nobody can explain.

Numbers nobody agrees on

Finance says $4.2M. Sales says $4.6M. Both are right — by different definitions. The meeting derails.

No trail, no trust

Where did that number come from? Which query? Nobody can say. When the auditor asks, you scramble.

Metric drift kills confidence

A data engineer changes a model. Dashboards break quietly. The business finds out during the board deck.

What you get

Every piece of the governance stack.

Not another AI chatbot. The infrastructure that makes AI answers defensible.

Approval gate

Metrics go live only after an approver signs off. Editors draft; approvers publish. The boundary is enforced in code.

Detected-metric chip

Every AI answer shows exactly which approved metric answered it — version, source, confidence. Not a guess.

Nightly drift detection

A golden query locks each metric. If the underlying data shifts, the metric auto-reverts to draft before anyone notices.

Full audit log

Every question, answer, and metric used is timestamped and searchable from day one. Compliance asks; you click.

Wizard-drafted metrics

Upload a CSV and Canon drafts 5+ metric definitions automatically — name, description, dimensions, measures. No SQL.

Tamper-evident artifacts

Generated YAML and docs carry checksums. A hand-edited file gets flagged before it can poison an answer.

Why not just use what you have

Governed answers vs. everything else.

BI tools need SQL. AI gives untraced answers. Canon gives you both — governed.

How it works

From CSV to governed metrics in 5 minutes.

01

Wizard drafts metrics from your data

Upload a CSV. Canon profiles columns, detects types, and drafts 5+ metric definitions in plain English — no SQL required.

02

Approver locks it in the ledger

An approver reviews the draft, enters their governance key, and publishes. Canon generates the governed model and golden query.

03

Every answer is traced and auditable

Users ask in natural language. Each answer shows the metric chip, version, and source rows. The audit log captures everything.

Who uses Canon

Built for teams where the numbers matter.

Head of Data

Stop being the bottleneck between business questions and answers.

Define every metric once — approved name, definition, governed query — and enforce it everywhere. You stop re-explaining what revenue means.

Early adopters

Teams that need defensible answers.

From finance to compliance to data engineering — Canon gives every team a single source of governed truth.

The first time a stakeholder asked where a number came from and I could click straight to the approved metric, source rows, and approver — that was the moment. No more 'I'll get back to you.'

We had three versions of 'ARR' floating across Finance, Sales, and the board deck. Canon forced us to define one. Now every governed answer cites the same approved definition. The quarterly review runs 40 minutes faster.

The drift detection alone is worth it. A schema change used to silently break dashboards for days. Now the golden query fails, the metric reverts to draft, and the on-call pager stays quiet.

Our auditors asked for the full query history behind three metrics in one afternoon. I exported the audit log, sent it over, and the conversation was done in an hour. That used to take two engineers a week.

Common questions

What teams ask before they start.

Is my data safe? Does Canon store it?
Canon processes CSV data to draft metric definitions, then discards it. Your raw data never leaves your session. The governed artifacts (metric YAML, golden queries) live in your Canon workspace — not on third-party analytics servers.
Does it work with our data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)?
The current version connects via CSV upload, which works with any stack — export a sample, upload, and Canon drafts your metrics. Native warehouse connectors are on the roadmap. Your approved metric definitions are warehouse-agnostic YAML.
How long does setup take?
Under 5 minutes from CSV to first governed metric. Upload → wizard drafts definitions → approver publishes one → ask a question. No SQL, no data engineering, no integration scripts.
Who controls which metrics get approved?
You do. The ledger is role-gated: editors draft, approvers publish. Canon enforces the boundary in code — no one bypasses the approval step. You set who holds the approver key.
What happens when underlying data changes?
Each approved metric has a golden query that locks in the expected result. Canon runs it nightly. If the data shifts and the query result changes beyond tolerance, the metric auto-reverts to draft before it can poison an AI answer.
