Same question.
Two very different answers.
Ask your CRM a normal business question. On the left, what you get today. On the right, what Canon gives you: one number, with the definition, the approver, and the lineage behind it. Both sides are typed at the same speed, right now.
What you get today
Three tools, three answers, no source of truth
What Canon gives you
One approved metric, and the receipts
Illustrative example. These figures are not live data, they show how Canon resolves a question once a metric is approved.
Try it yourself
Type any question you'd ask your CRM. Canon resolves it to an approved metric, or tells you honestly that no approved definition exists yet, instead of inventing one.
Why this is worth doing
Every number has an owner
A metric isn't live until a human approves its definition. The approver's name travels with the answer.
The AI can't freelance
Questions resolve to approved metrics only. No approved definition means Canon says so. It never guesses a number.
Answers are reproducible
Definitions are versioned. Last quarter's board number can be re-run exactly as it was computed then.

Who uses Canon
Built for teams where the numbers matter.
Head of Data
Stop being the bottleneck between business questions and answers.
Define every metric once, with an approved name, definition, and governed query, and enforce it everywhere. You stop re-explaining what revenue means.
CFO / VP Finance
Every board-deck number has a chain of custody.
Finance and data aligned on a single approved definition. Every number that goes to the board has a source, version, and approver on record.
Compliance Lead
Full lineage from source to answer, one click.
Canon logs every question, every metric, every answer, timestamped from day one. Pass your next audit without pulling the data team off sprints.
Early adopters
Teams that need defensible answers.
From finance to compliance to data engineering, Canon gives every team a single source of governed truth.
The first time a stakeholder asked where a number came from and I could click straight to the approved metric, source rows, and approver, that was the moment. No more 'I'll get back to you.'
Marcus R.
Head of Analytics, Series B SaaS
We had three versions of 'ARR' floating across Finance, Sales, and the board deck. Canon forced us to define one. Now every governed answer cites the same approved definition. The quarterly review runs 40 minutes faster.
Sophia L.
VP Finance, PE-backed retailer
The drift detection alone is worth it. A schema change used to silently break dashboards for days. Now the golden query fails, the metric reverts to draft, and the on-call pager stays quiet.
Daniel K.
Data Engineering Lead, fintech startup
Our auditors asked for the full query history behind three metrics in one afternoon. I exported the audit log, sent it over, and the conversation was done in an hour. That used to take two engineers a week.

Common questions
What teams ask before they start.
- Is my data safe? Does Canon store it?
- Canon processes CSV data to draft metric definitions, then discards it. Your raw data never leaves your session. The governed artifacts (metric YAML, golden queries) live in your Canon workspace — not on third-party analytics servers.
- Does it work with our data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)?
- The current version connects via CSV upload, which works with any stack — export a sample, upload, and Canon drafts your metrics. Native warehouse connectors are on the roadmap. Your approved metric definitions are warehouse-agnostic YAML.
- How long does setup take?
- Under 5 minutes from CSV to first governed metric. Upload → wizard drafts definitions → approver publishes one → ask a question. No SQL, no data engineering, no integration scripts.
- Who controls which metrics get approved?
- You do. The ledger is role-gated: editors draft, approvers publish. Canon enforces the boundary in code — no one bypasses the approval step. You set who holds the approver key.
- What happens when underlying data changes?
- Each approved metric has a golden query that locks in the expected result. Canon runs it nightly. If the data shifts and the query result changes beyond tolerance, the metric auto-reverts to draft before it can poison an AI answer.
- What's the pricing?
- Canon is in private beta. Early teams get founder pricing — email us to reserve a spot. We're building with a small group of data teams who care about governance before scaling access.
